July 2014 Update – 80th Birthday Celebrations

Family. This year Elizabeth and I have both celebrated our 80th birthday. Recently we had a lovely family celebration in Chichester with our three children and their families. A wonderful picnic by a lake below Arundel Castle and then a stroll by the river was followed in the evening by a superb celebratory dinner. We feel it is such a joy and privilege to be surrounded by a loving family with each of our three children and their marriage partners plus all our seven (the perfect number!) grandchildren. Coming from a strong Christian family line, for Elizabeth it is very special too to see that line continuing through the children and now also to the grandchildren. For me too it is moving to realise that one is the patriarch of such a loving family! And Elizabeth and I constantly praise God for the enormous blessing of over 50 years of happy marriage together – and what rich lives the Lord has graciously given us too!
At our age health and strength can never be taken for granted. So we are specially thankful that we are both still able to continue with our speaking ministry around Britain and also overseas. We praise the Lord for his amazing grace and goodness to us.
It grieves us to see the frequent breakdown of marriage in our country and we long for people to experience the joy and comfort of steady loving marriages and the tremendous joy and support of loving families. We can only say a big thank-you to Andrew, Margaret and Ruth plus their marriage partners and the grandchildren. Let us all pray for such a work of God in our society that strong loving family life may be the joyful experience of the great majority of our people.
